Being Robbed by this Fall Back of Time

On a normal day, I'd be all excited about getting an extra hour of sleep. Actually I'd be excited about getting an extra 15 minutes of sleep. Excited: streamers, confetti, clappers excited! The big hype is all about getting sleep.

Well, I feel robbed. Not only am I not getting an extra hour but sleep hours have been taken away from me. Valuable, irreplaceable sleep. How I miss you terribly!

You would think it'd be logical if your child normally wakes up at 7am, he/she would wake up at 6am during this fall back of time. It's not the case for my Chubs. This whole messing with time is messing with our lives.

Chubs is waking up between the hours of 3am-5am. Waking up like he's gotten a full night of shut eye. I have no problem getting out of my comfy, warm bed to lay on the uncomfortable, cold couch as he plays quietly in the family room. OK, I would still have a problem with getting out of my comfy, warm bed, but it's a bigger problem if Chubs wants me to be all interactive with him at 3am.

There I am, in the dark, the only light is the street lamp outside our family room window and the light of the moon. Inside I'm praying Chubs gets the hint that it's dark. Dark meaning sleep. No, he wants Mama to read, play cars, wrestle. I lay on the couch pretending actually sleeping. He yells at the top of his lungs. He's announcing to the world it's time to wake up like a crazy rooster who has his days and nights mixed up.

It's now day 5 of this routine. How long does it take to reset? Help!

  1. It is finally getting better here. Yesterday, in fact, was the first day we noticed it. I am tired for you thinking about playing at 3:00 am. We thought 5:00 was bad!

  2. Oh I totally hear ya! When my oldest was a baby, the kid would start his day at, like 5am! So during the fall back crap, that was 4am! 4am! That's like the middle of the night!
Well, good luck getting them back on track. Maybe try keeping them up really late for a few days in a row...?...

  3. oh dear lord. please pray this is a phase.

i just tell them go play because momma is tired. when that doesn't work, i refuse to "interact" and sleep on the couch. not fun. for anyone!

  4. GAH with the word ver! GAH!!!!!

    (rant over.)

  5. How old is he? If he's old enough, you should check out the GoodNite Lite. i SWEAR by it!

  6. I agree with Liz. Teach (or scare) him to stay in bed until the GoodNite light sun comes up or a certain number on the digital clock. We ask (or maybe force) our daughter to stay in her room until there's a seven on her clock. It has saved my sanity.

  7. Just put him back to bed and tell him it is night, night and leave the room. It might not be the time change, but a new phase.

  8. Oh my gosh! 3 am is brutal. There would be no coffee in the world strong enough to help me cope with that for a whole week.

I hope that clock resets soon!

  9. My daughter has been waking up at 4:30 every morning and not going back to sleep. She just talks in my ear for a couple of hours while I try to at least rest in my bed. I am exhausted! Why can't we just leave the clocks alone! Have a good night!

    Mama Hen

  10. Did it get any better?

It actually worked in our favor. Once. We put D1 down at 7pm. :-P

  11. I'm still having a hard time adjusting!
